Over 85 Years Strong, West Warwick's Favorite Chinese Food Destination
1. What's on the menu? What would you recommend to first-time customers?
Our menu is quite eclectic. We truly are a Chinese and American restaurant. Not many menus will feature authentic Shanghai Style Spring Rolls or Fall River Style Chow Mein next to American Dishes like Chicken Croquettes and Veal Cutlets. Of course expected favorites like our Beef Teriyaki Skewers or Sweet and Sour Chicken will always be among the top sellers. But we also have some other unexpected favorites like comfort food Chicken Cutlet or the flashy Bird’s Nest which is seafood and vegetables served in a bowl made of crisply fried noodles.
For a first time visitor to the Hong Kong Restaurant, you can’t go wrong starting with a Scorpion Bowl, an appetizer of our house sticky wings or Wonton Soup, and a Combo #21 (Our Unique Honey based General Tso’s Chicken with an Egg Roll and Pork Fried Rice). Then finish off the night with a Fried Ice Cream or Strawberry Shortcake dessert.
2. What separates us from our competitors?
Not many restaurants in the state can say they’ve been around for over 85 years. We’ve been part of the neighborhood for generations feeding great grandparents and grandchildren alike providing a place you can go every day without breaking the bank. We make our sauces in house; use premium all white meat chicken in our dishes, unlike our competitors; and do it all at an affordable price in a casual atmosphere.
3. What else would you like to convey to the public about your restaurant? What do you like about Rhode Island?
Over the years, we’ve remodeled the restaurant but each time we change, we still try to retain some of the nostalgic charm in our original dining room with historic architectural details and hand painted wood panels. Everyday 7 days a week, you’ll see family either working in the kitchen or at the bar. Running this restaurant requires heavy devotion and hands on work to maintain quality and the decades developed Hong Kong Experience. Even if you just come by for takeout for your first time back after a decade away, we encourage you to take a look at our original dining room and it will take you back to your childhood.
West Warwick is an unexpected treasure trove of Chinese Restaurants with over 5 restaurants within a mile radius. While we’re the oldest (and best in our common objective opinion) Chinese restaurant around many people that come back to visit Rhode Island always stop by and always tell us their parents brought them here when they were kids and the food is as great as they’ve always remembered.
